In effort to better serve our patients and their families, we have listed several questions and answers in the following subject areas:
Choosing and Seeing a Doctor
  1. Can I always see the same doctor, even at night and on weekends?
There will be circumstances when Dr. Gaudet is not available. Call is shared with Dr. Beezley, and nights and weekends are alternated between the two of them. CMG is open every Saturday for your convenience, however.
  2. Is a doctor always available for a CMG patient?
Yes, the phones are answered 24 hours per day. We ask that you reserve non-urgent questions for office hours, however.
  3. I'm adopting a baby. When should I come in for the first visit?
The sooner the better! Pre-adoption and pre-natal visits are encouraged.
  4. I'm pregnant. When should I come to meet my pediatrician?
The sooner the better! Pre-adoption and pre-natal visits are encouraged.

Medicine and Lab Tests
  1. What kinds tests are offered in the office?
Bloodwork is the most common test we perform. Flow-cytometry blood count analysis with automated white cell differential is available in the office, which can be used to screen for anemia, abnormalities in platelet number, and abnormalities in white blood cell counts. Also, screens for strep throat, urinalysis, pulse oximetry (non-invasive blood oxygen measurement), vision screens, fluorecein eye examinations (test for corneal trauma), occult fecal blood test. Many other lab tests are available, which are sent to a reference lab.
  2. I don't want antibiotics every time my child gets sick. How do you prescribe?
Conservatively, but rationally. We couldn't agree more that antibiotics are grotesquely over-used.. We do not give antibiotics for viral infections. It is our general policy (with very few exceptions) to never "call in" an antibiotic. For more information on the subject please see the free brochure in our office "Your Child And Antibiotics."

Hospitals
  1. Which hospitals do you go to?
Dr. Gaudet has full priviliges at Wesley Medical Center and Forrest General Hospital. Mothers who deliver at either hospital can request Dr. Gaudet for their ChildÕs pediatrican.
  2. After I deliver at Forrest General when do you come to see the baby?
Always within 24 hours. If there is a problem with your delivery, one of the neonatologists will be in attendence. When the baby comes to the nursery, Dr. Gaudet will provide all further medical care for the baby.
  3. Who will see my baby at Wesley Medical Center?
At Wesley, all infants are checked and cared for by a neonatologist. He will decide when your baby goes home, and when you should bring him or her in for your first check-up. All information from the hospital is sent to my office before your visit, and you can call my office if you have a problem or question before your first visit.
